An Assessment of the Effectiveness of the National Aids Indicator Survey (NAIIS) Campaign Strategies
Abstract
This is a qualitative study that assessed the campaign strategies by The National Aids Indicator Survey (NAIIS) in curbing the prevalence of HIV/AIDS. This study examined the relevance of the communication strategies as well as the challenges encountered in implementing the strategies. The agenda setting theory was used as theoretical framework. Using in-depth interview, the study
revealed that NAIIS in the North East region in Nigeria, was wholly designed with communication inclusiveness to mobilise communities in the region; cooperate with the workers and accept processes involved in the National Survey. It was found that advocacy was the main communication strategy used. It was, among others, recommended that indigenous people should be included
in the team membership of such surveys for easy implementation.
