Influence of Organisational Communication on the Performance of Staff of the Department of Mass Communication in University of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria

Abstract

The study was carried out to determine the influence of organisational communication on the performance of staff of the Department of Mass Communication in University of Benin. The study adopted the survey method and used a well structured five-item questionnaire to generate data. The population of study comprised the 32 staff (15 academic and 17 non-academic) of the department and consequent upon the number, the census of the population (that is the 32 staff) was studied. Findings from the study revealed that organisational communication has a tremendous influence on the performance of the staff as it leads to enhanced productivity. It was concluded that organisational communication has a huge influence on the performance of staff in organisations and the researchers recommended that the management of the department should make efforts to complement the existing channels of communication with the social media such as Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.
