Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Revolutionise Film Production
Abstract
The researchers investigated the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Nollywood,
Nigeria's vibrant film industry, with specific objectives to examine AI's impact on pre-
production, production, and post-production processes; identify associated ethical
challenges; and forecast its future in filmmaking. Grounded in the disruptive innovation
theory and technological determinism theory, the researcher employed a library-based
methodology, synthesising and analysing existing literature and empirical studies. The
findings revealed that AI enhances efficiency, improves audience targeting, and reduces
production costs in Nollywood. However, challenges such as limited technological
infrastructure, skill gaps, and ethical concerns, including job displacement, persist. The
researchers recommended strategic investments in AI infrastructure, capacity building
and ethical frameworks to enable Nollywood to fully leverage AI's potential. These
efforts are crucial for fostering sustainable growth and innovation in Nigeria's creative
economy while addressing the ethical and technological challenges associated with AI
adoption.
